David Shlosberg for His Wonderful Book: 18th Century Silver Tea Tongs, from which I have learned so much and to Millicent Creech for a constant willingness to share her knowledge about all aspects of 17th and 18th century silver and with heartfelt thanks for the friendship of these four people. As a collector of silver tea tongs, which the dealer and I had just been discussing, I expressed an interest in seeing photos and a description, once the tongs were actually in stock. When the tongs arrived, they were properly described, not as “long tongs” which I assumed would be long tea tongs based on the fact we were discussing tea tongs at the time , but as serving tongs. Not having any in my current collection, I was intrigued at the possibility of acquiring a new pair. Shortly thereafter, I received a photo of the tongs, diagonal on a white background, marked as “incoming”, with a note that this preliminary photo would be followed by a full description and the dealer’s own photographs, once the tongs arrived. The photo with the green background is the first of a series of photos taken by the dealer and later forwarded to me.

Bracelets and necklets are not very common, a fact which is rather surprising, as in early times, before the issuing of a coinage, these articles beagas took the place of money to a large extent.
The snap buckles are a great feature that keep the blanket secure and closed tight to transport with a carry strap. Had on light mixed gray coat and waistcoat with metal buttons, corduroy breeches, round hat and plated shoe buckles if not altered.

Bill Wyman is more than a musician and photographer — the lifelong metal detectorist has also made some beautiful discoveries such as this buckle gallery. Bill has sent through a collection of some of his buckle finds, presented below as a close-up gallery of buckles that Bill has discovered. Bill has send through 36 close-up photos of his buckle finds, which Bill says were all discovered on his land or in fields in the local area.
Bill says the buckles date from , and were all made from copper alloys. Bill says the buckles are a wide selection from his bigger buckle collection, and would have been used for strap ends, belts, sword belts and shoes. The dates shown with each buckle in the slideshow below detail the historical period the buckle originated. So much so, that Bill Wyman has designed the metal detector with a unique appeal to children that has won praise from the likes of Richard And Judy.
I just want to say how amazed I got about your work. Regards from Brazil! Some beautiful finds here! I have trouble finding info on how to date them though other than pestering the local FLO , if you have any tips let me know! Thanks for the page its really handy for comparisons.

Very lovely shoe concept, I like the simplicity, and being a fan of the ‘buckle’ I ignored a previous review, but then found same problem – the buckle over the toes.
